Jensen feedback notes

Sometimes make assumptions re: foundations behind quantitative research
qualitative - have to address qualitative quustions
quote - p. 8 Willis
"A A paradigm is not just a philosophy of science, such as postpositivsm .. "
Based upon a quantitative framework where we don't ask those question.
How a paradigm or world view implicates how people interpret understand world
evolution - positivistic paradigm
creationist - interpretivist paradigm

multiple paradigms - tend to fall into 3 main paradigms at this point in time
elements of that become subsets of a particular paradigm
multiple ways of using paradigms in looking at world
impacts way we look at the world
critical theory or interp. paradgim tend to have to use Qual approaches

ch 2 willis - marxist, stalinist - practiced gov't based on a certain paradigm about existence, truth, reality
paridigm influenced practice of what went on in Soviet Union

p. 19 - pink quote
paradigms based on assumptions about world and how we come to know the world
Qual & Quant are different - divergent stances
Remember:  not right or wrong - matter of understanding undst and beliefs impact how we act on world and how we ask q's about ouur partiuclar reality - assumptions and beliefs impact choices we make about how we engage in inquiry about our particular world
quant research - don't usually ask these questions - use scientific method
summary, ch 2 - 60, 61 -religious frameworks used to be the means through which we understaood the world - e.g. tree - expression of God - move out of that, ask different q's about how we undst world - Descartes - I think threfore I am - separate man from nature/God - opened up opportunities to ask q's about how our world operated - chop down tree, see what's going on inside - positivistic paradigm - gave access to world from positivistic paradigm

critical theory - other way of looking at world - inadequacy through positivistic paradigm - CT addressed dilemma in allowing us to address q's about the world

interpretivism - same thing - p. 61 pink

impact how we act in the world choices we make questions we ask

influences what we do when we engage in academic research  have to understand where you position yourself when it cones to world views - make conscious decisions about how you will ask - not right or wrong - how lens causes you to act in your world
